Editorial Board Policy and Terms of Appointment
What editorial board membership means at NADT Journals — responsibilities, ethics and appointment terms.
Official policy. Adopted text confirmed by the journal editor.
Purpose and scope
This policy describes the role of editorial board members in the academic and editorial development of NADT Journals. It applies to the editorial boards of the Journal of Humanities & Social Sciences (JHSS) and the Journal of Emerging Research Scholars (JERS).
Applicable journals and roles
- JHSS Editorial Board — see the JHSS editorial team. JHSS is the established, collaborative journal: at least one author must be a faculty member, researcher or established academic/professional scholar.
- JERS Editorial Board — see the JERS board page. JERS is in its formative stage, managed primarily by emerging researchers with senior academic mentoring; formal registration and ISSN allocation are planned, not yet obtained.
Responsibilities and expectations
According to the authority assigned to each role, editorial board members contribute to:
- Editorial development of the journal: scope, standards and quality.
- Initial manuscript screening against aims, scope and basic quality.
- Recommending qualified, independent reviewers in the relevant field.
- Advising on editorial decisions, where the role assigns that authority.
- Upholding the standards in the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Policy.
Final editorial decisions rest with the editors as assigned — see the Peer Review and Editorial Decision Policy.
Ethical standards
- Decide and advise solely on scholarly merit, free from personal or institutional bias.
- Maintain confidentiality: do not share, discuss, cite or reuse unpublished manuscript content — see the Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Policy.
- Declare conflicts of interest promptly and step back where impartiality cannot be assured.
- Alert the editors to suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication or ethical misconduct.
Appointment terms
For JERS, editorial board membership is a voluntary scholarly service role with no remuneration or financial incentives. Members are expected to act within their expertise, keep manuscripts confidential and conduct themselves ethically.
Appointment duration, renewal procedures, expected workload and termination processes have not been set as official terms. They must be confirmed by the journal editor before being presented here — this policy states none.
What membership does not confer
Board membership does not guarantee publication of a member's own work, authorship, or any particular professional outcome. Members' own submissions are assessed through the same double-blind review as any other manuscript.
Policy status
Status: Official policy. Reviewed and authorised for publication by the journal editor. No approval date, registration status, ISSN or accreditation is claimed beyond what is stated here. Private applications, reviewer records and editorial correspondence are never published on public policy pages.
